23 April - International Book & Copyright Day






Spanish writer Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra and English writer William Shakespeare died on the same day. That date, 23rd April, is now International Book Day.

Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra was born on 29 September 1547 in Alcalá de Henares, Spain and he died on 22 April 1616 (aged 68) but buried on 23 April in Madrid, Spain.
He was a novelist, a poet, a playwrighter and a soldier. His notable works were Don Quixote, Entremeses and Novelas ejemplares (Exemplary Novels).

William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare was born and brought up in the city of Stratford-upon-Avon,Warwickshire, England. Although his birth date is unknown, he was baptised on 26 April 1564 and he died on 23 April 1616 (aged 52) in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England. He was an English poet, playwright, actor and dramatist. At the age of 18, he married Anne Hathaway, with whom he had three children: Susanna and twins Hamnet and Judith. His notable works were Hamlet, King Lear, Othello, Macbeth, Romeo and Julliet, A Midsummer Night's Dream among others.
